Handel's massive choral work Israel in Egypt offers a musical El Dorado - Italianate arias and duets, weighty double fugues, harmonic boldness and, above all, dramatically exhilarating choruses.
It's an epic story of Moses' fight against the Pharoah and the devastation wrought by increasingly terrible plagues - flies, frogs, locusts, hailstones, and the Nile turning to blood. Finally the tormented Israelites are led to freedom with the climactic parting of the Red Sea.
Ancient Rome will become ancient Egypt as musicians, actors and singers dramatise this spectacular Biblical oratorio.
